Jeep Grand Cherokee

Choosing a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) can be daunting. There are many choices out there; some still have the ability to tackle terrain like that in the images above, others are urban crawlers that are heavy on form rather than function. Two of the premiere nameplates within the SUV category are Jeep and Land Rover. Since smart shoppers do not base their car buying decisions on nameplates alone, we thought it might be a good idea to look at a few of the SUV’s built by both so you can take a close look at their features. The hope is that you will be better able to make an informed decision.

Jeep

Jeep

The Jeep brand came into being in 1941 as a product built by Willys Overland. The first Jeeps were tough field reconnaissance vehicles built for use by the United States military. Now part of the Fiat Chrysler stable of vehicles, Jeep has become more refined without losing its off-road toughness. The Jeep brand offers three outstanding SUVs that may meet all of your needs. Let’s take a look at each.

Jeep Cherokee

Jeep Cherokee

The Jeep Cherokee has changed dramatically since its introduction in 1974. It was first marketed as a trim level of the full-sized Jeep Wagoneer, then a freestanding model within the compact SUV segment, and now as a premiere crossover SUV. Throughout its life the Jeep Cherokee has been a durable option for adventurous families.

The current generation is powered by a variety of petrol and diesel I4 engines, with a single V6 option available. After 2012, the standard gearbox is a nine-speed automatic, but a six-speed manual is available. Buyers have the option of purchasing a Jeep Cherokee with front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, or four-wheel drive. The Cherokee has received top safety ratings in every market that it is sold in and has a reputation for durability and comfort. That is why we offer multiple Jeep Cherokees at all times.

Where the Jeep Cherokee is more of an entry level SUV, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is built with luxury in mind.

Categorized as a mid-size luxury SUV, the Jeep Grand Cherokee can be powered by a choice selection of V6 and V8 powerplants. The standard gearbox is currently an eight-speed automatic. The base models are front-wheel drive, but AWD and 4WD are both available options. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the most awarded SUVs in automotive history for its off-road capability, luxury, value, best-in-class, and safety.

Jeep Wrangler

Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is a pure off-road vehicle built for fun and adventure. It makes no pretenses to luxury, nor has it a single reservation about who and what it is. This is a mud-slinging, hill-climbing fun-to-drive SUV for the most adventurous drivers around.

The current generation of the Jeep Wrangler can be powered by a strong diesel I4, a petrol V6, or a petrol V8. There are three automatic gearbox options available, with a six-speed manual on the menu as well. While luxury appointments are minimal, there is more than enough ground clearance to tackle any terrain you may need to. You can view our full Jeep Wrangler inventory here.

Land Rover

Land Rover

Land Rover has been building iconic SUVs since the early 1950s. They are often chosen for their versatility and ability to tackle tough terrain far from a repair shop. The company builds a wide selection of durable SUVs, but two especially stand out. They are the Land Rover Discovery and the Land Rover Freelander.

Land Rover Discovery

Land Rover Discovery

The Land Rover Discovery was introduced for the 1989 model year. After a few mild mid-model refreshes, the second generation was unveiled in 2004, with the third generation scheduled to begin sales in the UK sometime in mid-2017.

The Discovery seamlessly incorporates Land Rover’s field mechanics with top-of-the-line luxury. The Discovery can be equipped with diesel or petrol engines. The usual gearbox is a six-speed automatic, but an eight-speed automatic and a six-speed manual are optional. Depending on the trim level selected, buyers can have Land Rover’s outstanding Terrain Response system at their disposal. The second and third generations have the updated Sand and Rock settings that automatically adjust to those terrain types for easy take-off and to decrease slippage.

The Freelander, while compact in size, offers a full-sized range of powerplants, gearboxes, and luxury appointments. Your engine options can range from an economical 1,796 cc petrol I4 to a 3,196 cc petrol V6, depending on the generation and trim level you select. The standard gearbox is an automatic, but five-speed and six-speed manuals are available to discerning buyers. The luxury appointments that are available are nearly endless.
