Blind spot detection and rearview cameras

For these two features, car buyers are willing to dig deeper into their pockets. Blind spot detection is a technology primarily designed to notify you about cars or objects appearing in your blindspot (an area where your vision is obscured). It enables you to have 360-degree view of your surroundings. When the camera detects something in the way as you turn, it gives off a flash signal, creates a vibration effect on the seat, or sounds an alarm. Though the feature is not standard in all car models, you can ask for its installation for an extra charge. Rearview cameras on the other hand make parking easy and accident-free.

Adaptive headlights

Adaptive headlights are designed to give uninterrupted view during the night. The headlights are capable of offering a clear view of objects that are as far as 1000 feet away. It prevents the motorist from hitting trees, people, or animals, which may be in their path. The lights go in line with the direction you are traveling, such as bending the beam when you are maneuvering sharp curves. Some are speed sensitive, changing the beam length or the height. Fortunately, adaptive headlights are available in BMW, Cadillac, Lexus, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz and Porsche among other models. However, you can also have them installed in your car model.

Tire pressure monitoring

Flat or faulty tires cause a significant percentage of road accidents. Sometimes, it is difficult to sense your tires as their pressure dwindles. The pressure could have been sufficient when you were leaving your home, but tire punctures happen frequently unbeknownst to drivers. This is where tire pressure monitoring comes in handy. The feature uses sensors in the wheels which send information about the pressure levels of the wheels to the instrument panel. The signal is usually in form of a light.

It senses anytime you take a sharp bend fast, applies brakes, and regulates the speed as required to prevent you from losing control. In Ford models, it is named as roll stability control, in GM the Proactive roll avoidance while in Range rovers it is referred to as Active roll mitigation. Although they have different names, they all use the same principle.

Emergency brake assist

Emergency brake assist uses different technology from that used in electronic brake force distribution or antilock braking system. It detects when the driver makes a hasty stop and soon after, applies extra brake pressure to shorten the stopping distance. In some car models, it works together with the cruise control or the stability control system if it senses a possibility for collision. It is a standard feature in BMW, Honda, Porsche and Mazda.
