Fuel Efficiency and Engine

The Toyota Raize is offered in three optional engines: A turbocharged 1.0-liter (1KR-VET) 3-cylinder petrol engine with an output power of 98 hp and 103 lb-ft of torque as standard. In a standard setup, power is transferred to the front wheels via a D-CVT(Dual CVT) transmission. The standard drivetrain is FWD with 4WD available. Its fuel efficiency rating for the 2WD model is 18.6 km/L and for the 4WD model, it’s 17.4 km/L. A 1.2-liter (WA-VE) 3-cylinder petrol engine has a rated power output of 90 hp and 83 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the front wheel via a D-CVT transmission. A series hybrid system that pairs a 1.2-liter (WA-VEX) 3-cylinder engine with an E1A electric motor. This combination has a rated power output of 105 hp and 130 lb-ft of torque. This system transfers power to the wheels via a hybrid synergy drive system. This hybrid model has a rated fuel efficiency of 28km/L. The measured acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h is 10 sec, 12 sec, and 11.1 sec for the turbocharged 1.0-liter, the naturally aspirated 1.2-liter (WA-VE), and the 1.2-liter (WA-VEX) hybrid system respectively.

Writer’s perspective

The Toyota Raize is a nice offering from Toyota, it’s spacious, versatile, and has ample ground clearance. The Raize is comfortable and functional with enough space for five passengers. Its standard manually adjustable driver seat is placed high enough with great visibility of the road ahead making it suitable for all sorts of drivers, in addition, its electrically powered 3-spoke steering wheel adds that much-needed comfort on the wheel. The Raize is a good daily driver with a desired extra oomph for making those short bursts while overtaking, and its large windows make the cabin airy while also providing good outward visibility. The cabin is relatively quiet such that listening to the radio or having conversations is easier. Available and standard safety features of the Raize include SRS airbags, Lane Departure Warning, Collision Avoidance Brake, Collision Warning, VSC & TRC, and ABS & brake assist with EBD. The power output of the Raize ranges between 90 – 105 hp. The Raize is a basic car with plenty of standard features. It’s superbly efficient and fantastic, but its transmission is not a good match for the turbocharged engine as it stops it from realizing its full potential.

Fuel Efficiency and Engine

The Yaris Cross is offered in two optional engines: A 1.5-liter (M15-FKS) 3-cylinder petrol engine with a power output of 118 hp and 107 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant transfers power to the wheels via a CVT transmission. The standard drivetrain is FWD, an AWD option is available. A hybrid system that pairs a 1.5-liter (M15-FXE) petrol engine with a motor 1NM AC synchronous (front) for the FWD (standard) model or 1MM AC synchronous (rear) for the AWD-i (intelligent all-wheel drive) model. The combined power output of this system is 114hp. Power to the wheels is transferred via an e-CVT transmission. In late 2022 Toyota introduced the Yaris Cross GR Sport with a touch of styling, tuning, and handling touches from its GR Sports motorsports arm. This model is a bit different compared to the rest of the lineup. It’s available with the 1.5-liter (M15-FXE) hybrid powertrain with a FWD drivetrain only. Its rated power output is 114 hp and 104 lb-ft of torque. Its rated fuel efficiency is 26km/L.

Writer’s perspective

The appeal of the Yaris cross does not end on the outside, it continues on the inside as well. There are plenty of soft, cushy, soft-touch materials throughout the cabin that look neat and pleasant. The driving position is high with a good view of the exterior, and the seats are comfortable and cosy. Space on the rear seat is a bit limited. There’s not as much headroom as one would have liked, but still, two tall adults can sit in reasonable comfort. Standard safety features include lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking. Available features include all-round parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring. The sole 1.5-liter hybrid powertrains power is 114hp. The Yaris Cross is very efficient though sluggish, so spacious and comfortable with a cargo area that’s more than what you would expect. The interior finishing is nice but could’ve been better by reducing the amount of plastics and upgrading the infotainment system. The Yaris Cross is a car suited for people of all ages.
