BMW Alpina – Prices, History, Engine, Interior & Exterior, Features

The Alpina story began in 1965 when Burkard Bovensiepen an owner of a typewriter manufacturing plant built a dual carburetor for the BMW 1500. After close scrutiny and tests, BMW eventually certified the carburetor and began fitting it in their cars.

Alpina (Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH & Co. KG) is a company that has specialized in customizing BMW cars, working independently of BMW but permanently partnered with them, in designing and customizing BMW’s high-performance cars.

The production process involves the engine first being hand-built at the Alpina facility, and then sent to the BMW plant for the engine and body to be paired. From there, the car is then sent back to Alpina for interior finishing, transmission optimization, and application of the Alpina-designed Switch-Tronic button shifter.

Alpina is known for its emphasis on higher torque, luxury, and performance, with unique styling and special colors, badging, and other extra options not typically found on BMWs.

Currently, available models include the Alpina XD3 and XD4 that are based on the X3 and X4 BMW models. The B4 variants, the B5 and B6, are based on the BMW Series 4, 5, and 6. The icing on the cake is the Alpina B7 based on the BMW 7 Series.

Used BMW Alpina’s attract a price that ranges between US$ 15,500 and US$ 114,000 at BE FORWARD.
