Lexus GS – An Outstanding Evolution


The Lexus GS formerly known as Toyota Aristo is a Japanese executive mid-luxury 4 door sedan manufactured by Toyota since 1991. Toyota Aristo adopted the name Lexus in 1993 but its vehicles were sold under the name Aristo up to 2005. The advancement of the Lexus GS began with the introduction of the inline-6 engine in the first generation S140 in 1993 followed by a bodywork adjustment and in-house styling in the second generation S160, followed by the third generation S190 in 2006 which came with V6, V8, and hybrid versions and finally the fourth generation L10 introduced in 2011 with the V6-powered GS 350, hybrid GS 450h and FSport variants. The Lexus GS is designed with a front-engine, rear-wheel drive and a front-engine, all-wheel-drive with Toyota N platform and 4 to 5-speed automatic transmissions. Over the years, Lexus GS has proven to hold a good reputation due to its performance. The 2000 model came in the GS 400 with a 4.0l V8 engine powered by 300 hp @ 6000 rpm, 310 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm and 5-speed automatic transmission while the GS 300 came with a 3.0L in-line 6 engine, equipped by a 220 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm, 220 lb-ft @ 3800 rpm and a 5-speed automatic transmission with ETC-i.

Ten years apart and the Lexus GS family has grown to 4 models namely: the GS 350 AWD with 3.5-liter V6 all wheel drive (AWD) engine with dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), and a six speed sequential-shift automatic transmission, the GS 350 equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, a dual Variable Valve Timing with  intelligence (VVT-i) and a six-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission, the GS 450h coming with a 3.5-liter V6 Super Ultra-Low Emission engine (SULEV II) with VVT-i, Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) and a high-output electric motor and last but not least is the GS460 equipped by a 4.6-liter V8 engine, a dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence and Electronic intake valve timing (VVT-iE).

For luxury and convenience, Toyota upgrades the Lexus GS with several features making it even more sophisticated comparing to its previous release including the SmartAccess with push-button Start/Stop, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column with automatic tiltway, power tilt-and-slide moonroof, sliding sunshade and power windows with on-touch open/close,and  power door locks and trunk closer. The interior is nicely designed with heated and ventilated leather seats with adjustable headrests, leather trimmed steering and shift knob as well as carpeted floor mats.

The 2020 year models come with many highly sophisticated new and advanced  features in the GS 350 RWD/ GS 350 F sport RWD coming with a 3.5 litre V6 engine, 311 horsepower and an 8-Speed sport direct shift automatic transmission, the GS 350 AWD / GS 350 F Sport AWD equipped by a 2.5 liter V6 engine, 311 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and the GS F powered by a 5.0 liter V8 engine coming with a 467 horsepower and an 8-speed sport direct shift automatic transmission.
